This dual full-bridge driver IC is suitable for 14 V automotive stepper and DC motor applications. Its four half-bridge outputs, configured as two channels, are programmed through six TTL-compatible inputs, allowing flexible control of bridge operation. The device has a standby mode, run mode, or braking mode and typically consumes less than 1 uA in standby mode. In run mode, each half-bridge output can source load current in either direction. Brake mode activates either the low side transistor or the high side transistor at the selected output. An on-chip recirculation diode is provided and the IC has multiple fault protection modes. Overcurrent detection provides protection to ground for shorted loads between the outputs and a short to supply or ground at each output. An overcurrent fault condition activates an internal timer that modulates the fault output with a low duty cycle. An overcurrent condition in one channel will not affect operation in the other channel. Overvoltage and overtemperature detection are also provided and all bridge outputs are shut down in these fault conditions. Recovery from all fault conditions is automatic; the IC resumes normal operation in the previously selected mode after the fault is resolved. Diagnostics are provided through two open-collector status outputs that report the fault status of each channel individually during overcurrent faults and together during overvoltage or overtemperature faults.
